Before Submission
What types of manuscripts does the journal accept?
Please find the complete list of accepted manuscript types in the Author Guidelines.
NOTE: Due to a change in publisher policies, short communication manuscripts are no longer published by the International Journal of Dermatology. Short-format articles should be submitted as clinical correspondence or letter to the editor.
Are case reports or case series accepted?
Depending on their word count and level of detail, case reports and case series should be submitted either as an original article or as clinical correspondence.
Is my topic within the journal’s scope?
In case you have reasonable doubts regarding the suitability of your research topic, please contact us for a brief assessment at manager@intjderm.org. The feedback provided will help you decide if the IJD is a good fit for your manuscript, but it will not guarantee acceptance.
Are there limits on the number of figures, tables, or references?
Yes. Each manuscript type has the relevant limits listed in the Author Guidelines. Please follow them carefully as non-compliance with the manuscript requirements may result in desk rejection.
Do I need to include a graphical abstract or other supplementary material?
For long-format articles, such as reviews or original articles, graphical abstracts are now mandatory. If this requirement is missed during the initial submission, the graphical abstract can be uploaded during revisions. Supplementary material may be uploaded in a separate file.
Short-format articles do not allow for the inclusion of any supplementary material. In these instances, we recommend uploading your files to Mendeley and including the link in the manuscript. Please check the relevant supplementary material policies for your manuscript type in the Author Guidelines.
High-quality figures are strongly recommended in all manuscripts.
After Submission
I accidentally entered incorrect author information. How can I correct it?
Can I suggest reviewers?
Yes, although we cannot guarantee that all suggested reviewers will be invited to review the manuscript.
Ethics and Transparency
What are the journal’s requirements for patient photographs?
Please ensure that you submit high-quality photographs taken in good lighting conditions, with a uniform or blurred background and no visible patient clothing (e.g., outside clothes, underwear).
What are the journal’s policies on artificial intelligence (AI) tools?
The use of AI tools is permitted for language correction and improvement, graphical abstract generation, and others. For detailed guidance on the use of generative AI tools, please refer to Wiley’s AI policy.
How should AI use be disclosed?
We encourage authors to include a statement on AI use in the Disclosure section of the manuscript, naming the AI tool and the purpose of its use. Authors are expected to take full responsibility for the submitted content.
Peer Review
How long does peer review usually take?
Desk rejections are performed in the first 2 weeks, most often within a couple of days. Short-format articles usually receive a first decision within 4 weeks, whereas long-format articles are generally evaluated within 4-6 weeks.
Where can I monitor the status of my article?
Please enter your Wiley Research Exchange Author Dashboard to see the current status of your article. If the status remains unchanged for an extended period (over 3-4 weeks), please email us at manager@intjderm.org for more detailed status information.
Can I request an extension for a revision?
If the requested revision takes considerable time to implement or the circumstances otherwise warrant an extension, please email us at manager@intjderm.org.
Open Access Publication
Is the journal open access, hybrid, or subscription-based?
The International Journal of Dermatology is a hybrid journal, published online monthly. It offers free, subscription-based publication as well as Open Access licensing options.
Are there article processing charges (APCs)?
If the Open Access option is selected, submissions will be subject to an APC if accepted and published in the journal. Currently, the APC is $4,360 USD / £2,920 GBP / €3,650.
Are there discounts or waivers available? Does my institution or funder have an agreement with the publisher?
If the corresponding author’s institution, funder, or society has a Wiley Open Access Account (WOAA), all or part of the APC might be covered. Eligibility is based on the article’s acceptance date and the organization having an active account/partnership arrangement when the order is placed.
