On a Human Scale
Managing a journal requires close teamwork and a great amount of effort from handling submissions to the publication of each monthly issue.
In recognition of the tremendous work and dedication of the IJD Editorial Office led by Dr. Lawrence Gibson and Dr. Rokea el-Azhary between 2001 and 2023, we continue On a Human Scale submissions and provide space for the subjective, human perspective in dermatology.
This time, instead of formal manuscripts, we invite our audience to submit any artistic creation expressing thoughts related to dermatology. Send us your drawings, paintings, photos, anecdotes, and more to be featured in one of our monthly newsletters!

Between itches and flare-ups
There lies pain
Incessant and infuriating pain
Like an ever-present sword of Damocles
Threatening the core within
Perhaps slowly
Perhaps suddenly
But always at the ready.
Between diagnoses and treatments
There lies the feeling of demise
Predetermined demise
Like a seesaw between the ghastly and the ghostly
Shaking the ground within
Perhaps slowly
Perhaps suddenly
But always at the ready.
Between touches and hugs
There lies hope
Impossible-to-kill hope
Like a steadfast and loyal friend
Warming the world within
Perhaps slowly
Perhaps suddenly
But always at the ready.
Between new trials and technologies
There lie solutions
New and unexpected solutions
Like a treasure chest, filled with precious possibilities
Expanding the wings within
Perhaps slowly
Perhaps suddenly
But always at the ready.
